Objectives

Realizing that there are going to be children who will sadly be made homeless and even worse, children that will lose their parents, initially the main obective I posted about was to help find both temporary (hoping that one day this crisis will end and they will return to their parents) and permanent homes for Ukraine refugee children. It was also to ask people to contact their local MP and Government to encourage the Government to offer and smooth the path for taking in our 'good' share of refugees. I have just heard on the news, while writing this, that the Government is saying it will do this now which is good news indeed! A huge thank you to those that wrote or emailed your local MP. A further objective now is to start the ball rolling in respect of finding out about the hoops that will have to be jumped through to do this. This is still a main objective.

While reading replies on Uckfield chat there was one reply that caught my eye, where somebody thought there were lorries going to Poland that were willing to take supplies back with them. Finding a collection point this made it a priority to get supplies to the drop off point. In this case it was the Polish Deli in Eastbourne. The chat started fuelling itself and as soon as somebody posted, asking if somebody could help them to get things to the drop off point somebody soon offered to help. Then others offered further drop off points. Absolutely fantastic! I can tell you that the girl in the Polish Deli in Eastbourne had tears in her eyes over the response from the public. She explained to me that she had friends affected by the crisis in both Poland and Ukraine.

In doing this however I realised that people needed many questions answered about what to do and how to do it. Uckfield Talk was brilliant but it was so difficult to keep track of messages and messages over messages! To this end a priority will remain to make a website where local people can get all the information they need with regard to homing Ukranian Refugees and getting the right supplies to the right place in a timely manner. Further it can be updated to respond to changes.

It is hoped that this site will bring lots of people together with the common will to help the Ukrainian people.
